When I told people that I was travelling to Belize, 99% of the responses were “where’s that?” Now I am standing on the other side of my trip there, I feel this passion inside that I must tell the world exactly where Belize is and also at least 5 reasons they should book a flight there, IMMEDIATELY!

History
Each and every country offers their own unique story and history which intrigues and amazes every visitor. However, Belize has something extra special, their history is rich and diverse, dating back to the Maya people who you won’t go far without learning all about. If you are exploring Mountain Pine Ridge then you’ll be whisked back in time as you explore the caves and what the Mayans believed were portals to the underworld. This for me was fascinating and if you really want to “go to hell and back” you absolutely must go cave tubing! Your guide will lead you through a small cave system and plunge you into eternal darkness as they tell you tales of high priests and old beliefs surrounding the caves and what they represented to the Maya people.

BELIZE TRAVEL

Beaches
You can’t think of Belize and not think of beautiful, pristine, white-sand beaches flanked with colourful hammocks and large cold cocktails. You won’t be disappointed by what this stunning coastline has to offer. Whether you are taking a snorkelling tour around the Cayes or exploring Hopkins and are craving a long stroll through the gentle waves. You truly feel as though you are in paradise when you lie against the soft sand and gasp at just how clear the ocean is in front of you!

Food
For me, food can really make a place special and while the cuisine in Belize can be simple, that’s sometimes best! For breakfast, you won’t go far without having a serving of fry jacks and beans to really fuel you for a day of adventure! If you fancy treating your taste buds to the wide variety of dishes that Belize has to offer than you can’t miss a tour with Belize Food Tours. Based on the beautiful island of San Pedro which is only an hour away by boat from Caye Caulker, the cheerful and funny tour guides will whisk you around the oldest and best food joints on the island. One minute you’ll be sampling the local beers and the next you’ll be druling over the hand made coconut ice cream as you wander the back streets of San Pedro. If you have any dietry requirements then just let them know a little in advance and they will be able to arrange something for everyone at each stop!

Snorkeling and diving
I’ve been fortunate enough to have dived and snorkeled in some of the most beautiful places in the world. Take the Philippines, Australia and Thailand, and throw them aside because I have never had a country which has literally made me cry tears of joy into my mask, before I visited Belize.

While being based in Hopkins we went on two fantastic day trips with Dive Belize including one to South Water Cayes and Silk Cayes. Both incredible experiences in the own ways but our day at Silk Cayes will be on that stays with me for the rest of my life. Silk Cayes is made up of 3 TINY islands. They look like something out of a luxury travel magazine and are just about big enough for a couple of medium sized tour groups.

Size
Belize is tiny compared to its gigantic neighbours and it’s quite astounding how this one tiny country can pack so much in. You will never be far from the mountains or the rainforest… or the beach… or… anything! It really does have something for everyone and what’s better is that you don’t have to travel far to experience it all! Good things come in small packages and there really is no better way to sum Belize up!
